| Summary: | This amendment consolidates Appendix 7 and Appendix 31 in order to have a single Bear Management Rule. The existing Appendix 7 has also been extensively rewritten to make it more clear and concise. Substantively, the new rule creates an Early and Late Bear season, splitting the current single season. Hunting during the Early Season will require the purchase of an additional tag in order to take a bear during that season. It also extends the bear season four more days into the Regular Deer Season. Lastly, the rule includes a provision that requires the retrieval and utilization of the bear carcass. |
| Persons Affected: | The Fish and Wildlife Department, bear hunters. |
| Economic Impact: | The Department expects there may be an increase of $50,000 - $75,000 in permit sales as a result of the sale of Early Season tags. The funds will be used in administering the new tag and paying for the costs of the surveys and resources put into improving our bear managment program. |
