Health Officials to Discuss Pertussis (whooping cough) Outbreak

To date in 2012, there have been more than 500 confirmed cases of whooping cough reported to the Health Department. That is 10 times the number reported by the same time in 2011. More than 20 babies younger than 1 year have been confirmed to have the disease. Cases are being reported from every county.

Health officials will discuss the state’s response to this epidemic and actions to take to protect babies, who are at greatest risk for serious complications and death.
