Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos announces that there will be a meeting of the three Vermont Electors of the President and Vice President of the United States on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 11 of the State House in Montpelier, Vermont.
At that meeting the Electors will take their oaths of allegiance and oaths of office, organize by electing a President, Clerk, and Messenger, cast official ballots for the President and Vice President of the United States, and complete a Certificate of Vote to be sent to Washington.
The three Electors for Vermont are:
Kevin B. Christie, Hartford
Sherry Merrick, Post Mills
William Sander, Jeffersonville
Background: In Vermont, our legislature has provided in 17 V.S.A. §2731 that the statewide canvassing board shall issue its certificates of election “to the electors nominated by the party whose candidate for president has received the greatest number of votes.” The next section (17 V.S.A. §2732) provides that “the electors must vote for the candidates for president and vice-president who received the greatest number of votes at the general election.”
