Health and Safety Officials to Discuss Rise in Vermont Traffic Fatalities in 2012

WHAT:

Seventy-four people have died this year in fatal crashes in Vermont (51 in 2011, and 60 in 2010). Commissioner Flynn and Commissioner Chen will discuss the contributing factors in the rise of traffic fatalities this year, and what the state can do to lower the risk of these tragic injuries. More than half of the injuries (39) were sustained by people who were not wearing a seat belt or helmet. Dr. Keller will discuss how traffic injuries this year have impacted the state’s largest Emergency Department, and may lead a tour through the trauma area (depending on patient volume).
