Vermont business leaders unite to voice their views on structuring the State’s economic future
RUTLAND, Vt. – The Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development will join Vermont’s 12 regional development corporations and Green Mountain Power to sponsor the first-ever statewide economic development summit, to be held on Monday, June 3 at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland.
The summit will unite statewide businesses and economic development partners to identify challenges to - and opportunities for - economic growth, with emphasis on solutions and best practices. Intended to be an annual event, the 2013 summit is also the official kick off for the creation of a State Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.
“Vermont’s economy is comprised of more than paychecks and retail sales,” Commerce Secretary Lawrence Miller said. “A vibrant economy is the culmination of all the decisions that lead to productive businesses, increased employment opportunities and stronger communities. This summit, and the economic development strategy process initiated here, is about culling today’s best ideas, knowing that they will impact decisions that strengthen our economy and communities in the future.”
The summit includes remarks from Governor Peter Shumlin, signing of the H.377 downtown designation bill and panels of Vermont business owners who will share their experiences starting and growing businesses in Vermont. The panels will be followed by breakout sessions where approximately 125 participants will address economic development issues such as workforce development, leveraging the Vermont brand, global competitiveness, infrastructure, balancing growth and character, and innovation.
